Powder Metallurgy Processing Steps

2024-05-30

Powder metallurgy processing is a unique manufacturing technology that uses metal powder (or a mixture of metal and non-metal powder) as raw materials to produce metal materials, composite materials and various products through a series of sophisticated process flows. The following are the specific steps of this process:

1. Preparation of metal powder:

This is the first step in powder metallurgy processing, which involves converting raw materials into metal powder by oxide reduction or mechanical method. This step ensures the quality of the base material required in the subsequent process.

2. Preparation of blank powder:

According to the specific requirements of the product, the metal powder is mixed evenly in a certain proportion by wet, dry or semi-dry methods to form blank powder. Strict control of the powder ratio is the key to ensure product performance.

3. Mold forming:

The prepared blank powder is placed in a special powder metallurgy processing mold and formed into the desired shape by pressure molding or pressureless molding technology. This step is the basis for product shape molding.

4. Sintering treatment:

The molded product is heated by multi-component sintering or unit sintering process to consolidate the powder particles and form parts with the required physical and mechanical properties. Sintering is the core step in powder metallurgy processing, which directly affects the final performance of the product.

5. Post-processing process:

For products with extremely high precision requirements, a series of post-processing processes are required after sintering, such as finishing, oil immersion, electroplating, machining or heat treatment. These treatments are designed to further improve the stability, hardness and overall performance of the product.

Through this series of fine process flows, powder metallurgy processing can produce metal products with specific shapes, sizes and performance requirements, which are widely used in many fields such as automobiles, aviation, electronics, and machinery.
